Sibona Grappa Riserva La Numero 1
WHEN YOU'VE HELD LICENCE NUMBER ONE SINCE THE BEGINNING, YOU DON'T NEED TO SHOUT ABOUT IT. YOU JUST BOTTLE IT.
There are origin stories, and then there is this one.
Sibona holds the first distilling licence ever issued in Piedmont. Not among the first. Not one of the originals. The first. Numero 1. A single digit that carries the full weight of a region's distilling history on its label — and every ounce of responsibility that comes with it.
La Numero 1 is Sibona's statement grappa. The expression that wears the name on its sleeve and then spends every sip justifying it. Nebbiolo marc — the same hand-selected, freshly harvested raw material that runs through the entire Sibona reserve range — distilled in copper pot stills and then aged with the patience and intention that only a distillery with that kind of lineage can genuinely afford.
This is not a grappa that needs a Sherry cask or a Tennessee barrel to make its point. It makes its point all by itself. Rich, complex, and built on almost two centuries of knowing exactly what to do with the best Nebbiolo marc in Piedmont.
Licence number one. For a reason.
Tasting Notes
Deep, warm amber. The nose is commanding but never aggressive — dried figs, toasted hazelnuts, warm baking spice and a deep thread of oak running through everything. The palate is full and structured, with layers of dark fruit, walnut, leather and gentle vanilla, underpinned by the minerality that only well-handled Nebbiolo marc delivers. The finish is exceptionally long — spiced, warm and slowly unwinding, with the kind of complexity that rewards patience and a quiet room.
