Sibona Grappa Riserva in Botti da Tennessee Whiskey
PIEDMONT MEETS THE DEEP SOUTH. IT TURNS OUT THEY HAVE MORE IN COMMON THAN YOU'D THINK.
Tennessee Whiskey barrels are built for character. Charred American oak, soaked in some of the boldest, most flavour-forward spirit on the planet — vanilla, caramel, toasted wood and sweet corn — before making the crossing to a small Piedmontese distillery where they meet their match in Nebbiolo marc and copper pot still precision.
The result shouldn't work quite as well as it does. Two traditions further apart in geography and culture would be hard to find. And yet the Tennessee barrel does something remarkable to Sibona's grappa — it opens it up, sweetens it without softening it, and adds a layer of warmth and richness that feels entirely natural rather than borrowed.
This is Sibona at its most adventurous. And its most disarming.
Tasting Notes
Deep amber with golden highlights. The nose leads with vanilla, toasted oak and warm caramel — unmistakably Tennessee — undercut by the mineral intensity of the Nebbiolo marc. The palate delivers waves of sweet spice, charred wood and dried fruit, with the natural structure of the grappa keeping everything grounded and honest. The finish is long, warm and satisfyingly smoky — fading slowly with a lingering sweetness that invites the next sip before the last one has quite finished.
Producer: Distilleria Sibona
Expression: Grappa Riserva in Botti da Tennessee Whiskey
Appellation: Grappa Piemontese
Country: Italy
Region: Piedmont
Grape variety: Nebbiolo
Raw material: Nebbiolo marc from freshly harvested grapes, hand-selected by Sibona
Production method: Copper pot still distillation, exclusively in-house
Ageing: Aged in hand-selected ex-Tennessee Whiskey barrels of charred American oak
Cask origin: Tennessee Whiskey barrels from prestigious American distilleries
Colour: Deep amber with golden highlights
ABV: 43%
Bottle sizes: 50cl / 150cl / 20cl
Perfect Serve
Serve at 16–18°C in a tulip or balloon glass. Works exceptionally well neat — but if you're feeling adventurous, a single large ice cube slows the melt and opens up the vanilla and caramel notes beautifully.
Food Pairing
The charred oak and sweet spice of the Tennessee barrel makes this the most versatile of all the Sibona reserve expressions when it comes to pairing.
Smoked and cured meats — aged prosciutto, speck, smoked duck
Strong aged cheeses — aged Cheddar, Comté, Gruyère
Dark chocolate with sea salt or caramel
Pecan and walnut-based desserts — pecan pie, walnut tart
Barbecued or slow-smoked meats — the charred oak connection is instinctive
Vanilla and caramel ice cream
Storage
Store upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Replace cap firmly after opening.
Dietary and Allergen Information
No added sugar.
No artificial colouring.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Gluten-free.
Always check the product label before consumption, as ingredients, allergens and product information may change.
