Sibona Grappa Riserva in Botti da Sauternes
WHEN ITALY BORROWS FROM BORDEAUX, SOMETHING RATHER BEAUTIFUL HAPPENS.
Sauternes is one of the most celebrated sweet wines on earth — liquid gold from the banks of the Garonne, shaped by noble rot and decades of French winemaking obsession. When Sibona takes those spent barrels and fills them with Nebbiolo marc distilled in copper pot stills, the conversation between the two traditions produces something neither country could have made alone.
The honeyed, apricot-laced sweetness of the Sauternes wood doesn't overpower — it perfumes. It lifts. It takes the natural intensity of the Nebbiolo and gives it a floral, fruit-drenched elegance that is entirely unexpected and completely addictive. This is a grappa for people who think they don't like grappa. And for people who already do, it's the one that stops them mid-sip.
From licence number one in Piedmont. Into a Bordeaux barrel. Onto your table. Some journeys are worth taking.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold with warm amber highlights. The nose is immediately inviting — honeyed stone fruit, dried apricot, white peach and a delicate floral lift, with hints of vanilla and candied citrus peel. The palate is elegant and refined, with the natural structure of Nebbiolo beautifully balanced by the soft sweetness of the Sauternes wood. The finish is long, aromatic and gently lingering — fruit and honey fading slowly into warm spice.
