Weinrieder Riesling Ried Kugler 2017
RIPE STONE FRUIT, FINE HERBS AND STONY MINERALITY. ELEGANT SINGLE-VINEYARD RIESLING WITH VIBRANT ACIDITY AND SERIOUS AGEING POTENTIAL.
Some vineyards make Riesling.
Ried Kugler appears to sharpen it.
Weinrieder Riesling Ried Kugler 2017 comes from a protected, south-facing basin with soils rich in loess, clay and gravel. High limestone content leaves a particularly distinctive impression, bringing pronounced minerality, firm structure and considerable longevity to the wine.
The vineyard is sheltered from the west by the Kugler forest, while its soils retain sufficient water to support slow, balanced ripening. Vines up to 40 years old contribute depth and concentration.
The grapes were rigorously selected by hand, carefully destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by extended contact with the fine lees to build complexity and ageing potential.
Ripe, juicy fruit leads the palate, supported by fine acidity, herbs and delicate traces of nuts and tobacco. A light mineral character runs throughout, bringing freshness and definition to the persistent finish.
Riesling with years ahead of it.
Although opening it now remains entirely defensible.
Tasting notes
Bright yellow with youthful reflections.
Ripe stone fruit and juicy citrus are joined by fine herbs, subtle nuts and a restrained touch of tobacco.
The palate is concentrated and elegant, with vibrant acidity, delicate sweetness and pronounced mineral structure. Fresh fruit and savoury spice continue through the long, persistent finish.
