Weinrieder Beerenauslese Chardonnay Ried Hohenleiten 2020

HK$0.00

HONEY, DRIED APRICOT AND RIPE PEACH. LUSCIOUS CHARDONNAY WITH ELECTRIC ACIDITY AND A FINISH IN NO PARTICULAR HURRY.

Sweetness is easy.

Balance requires considerably more work.

Weinrieder Beerenauslese Chardonnay Ried Hohenleiten 2020 is an opulent Austrian dessert wine made from carefully selected, overripe Chardonnay grapes. Each bunch was meticulously harvested by hand at peak ripeness, concentrating the vineyard’s honeyed fruit while preserving the vibrant acidity for which Weinrieder’s sweet wines are known.

The grapes come from Ried Hohenleiten, a south-facing vineyard on a high plateau in the Weinviertel. Its combination of loess, clay and sand supports the production of powerful, complex wines with considerable ageing potential.

Honey, dried apricot and ripe peach form the heart of the wine. Notes of honeycomb, candied citrus, mango and pineapple follow, accompanied by delicate nuttiness and a measured touch of spice.

With 129g/L of residual sugar, this is undoubtedly a rich wine. Refreshing acidity keeps the sweetness precise, lifted and beautifully balanced.

Three hundred and seventy-five millilitres may sound restrained.

The contents are not.

Tasting notes

Luminous gold in appearance.

The nose is generous and concentrated, combining honey, dried apricot, ripe peach, honeycomb and delicate nutty aromas.

Luscious sweetness fills the palate, balanced by fresh, energetic acidity. Candied citrus, mango, pineapple and subtle spice lead into a long, persistent finish.
