Lergenmüller Black OX 2022

HK$0.00

JUICY WILD CHERRY, DARK CHOCOLATE AND GREEN PEPPER, WITH A WARM CURRENT OF SPICE. A POWERFUL RED CUVÉE WITH FRESH ACIDITY AND A LONG, COMMANDING FINISH.

Black OX does not tiptoe into the room.

A bold blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Dornfelder and Tempranillo, it brings together juicy wild cherry, green pepper and a darker suggestion of chocolate. Beneath the fruit lies a distinctly spicy character, giving the wine depth without diminishing its generous appeal.

Powerful on the palate, with present acidity providing welcome lift and definition. The finish is long, composed and every bit as confident as the bottle suggests.

A red with presence—and no particular interest in playing quietly in the background.

Tasting notes

Deep, dark red in the glass.

Juicy wild cherry leads the nose, followed by green pepper, dark chocolate and savoury spice.

Powerful and concentrated on the palate, with fresh acidity cutting through the ripe fruit. The finish is long, warming and attractively savoury.

Give it around 30 minutes to breathe before pouring. A little air helps the wild-cherry fruit open up and allows the chocolate, pepper and spice to settle into their stride.

Best placed at the centre of the table rather than poured as an afterthought.

Food pairing

Black OX has the power and savoury structure for richly seasoned meat, slow cooking and the unmistakable flavour of an open flame.

Serve with:

  • Rosemary-roasted lamb

  • Chargrilled rib-eye steak

  • Slow-cooked venison

  • Barbecued pork shoulder

  • Beef short ribs

  • Wild mushroom ragù

  • Smoky aubergine with spiced lentils

  • Manchego or aged Gouda

The juicy cherry fruit complements roasted and caramelised flavours, while its peppery, spicy character works particularly well with grilled meat and herb-led dishes.

Bring out the serious roasting tin.
